Valentino - Spring 2011 Couture
This season’s collection is soft, airy, and minimalist. The lightest, sheer pale fabrics that were chosen allow for such a movement that the clothes become an extension of the woman herself, blending with her own skin and gait as she floats along the runway. These light as air fabrics, along with the pleating detail and maxi-dress style hemlines pay an homage to the seventies era. It is also worth noting the contrasting sleeve lengths, varying from wrist-length to completely strapless. The semitransparent dresses, whether floor-length, high-collared, or grazing the knees, all tend to evoke a subtle eroticism while simultaneously holding fast to a certain sophistication expected of a couture collection.
